NJ Cell Phone Law Effective March 1st. 2008 The members and the administration of the Sea Girt Police Department are dedicated to maintaining the safety of the residents and visitors of Sea Girt as they drive, walk, or bicycle throughout the Borough. The Sea Girt Police is aggressive in the enforcement of state and local traffic regulations. Area's of the of the town where violations are known to occur are targeted for traffic enforcement. In doing so we hope to lessen the chances of people being involved in a traffic collision. High profile, aggressive violations such as driving while intoxicated, speeding, traffic light violations, stop sign violations, improper passing, and driving while suspended violations are most common types of violations for which traffic stops are made by officers of the Sea Girt Police Department. A officers then makes a decision whether to make an arrest, issue a summons, or issue a warning for such violation. More dangerous violation have a less likely probability of having a warning issued and a better chance for a summons or arrest. Driving while intoxicated is an offence which puts all of the population in great danger. The Sea Girt Police often ranks near the top in the number of arrests for driving while intoxicated among Monmouth County police agencies. In the year 2002 the Sea Girt Police Department made 84 arrests for driving while intoxicated. The statutory blood alcohol content (BAC) limit for drivers in the State of New Jersey is .08% blood alcohol. Drivers under the age of 21 must adhere to a much lower limit of .01% blood alcohol. Commercial vehicle drivers in the State of New Jersey are bound to a limit of .04% blood alcohol. Although these are the statutory limits, a successful prosecution of a person charged with D.W.I. who's BAC is below .08% blood alcohol can still be made if the State could prove the abilities of the driver were impaired due to drug or alcohol use. It is best not to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of any intoxicating liquor or drug ATTENTION : TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGE Ocean Avenue from Beacon Boulevard, south to New York Boulevard is now a one-way street with traffic flowing south between Beacon Boulevard and New York Boulevard.
