Project P.A.C.K.M.A.N.  (Police And Community Kids Music Against Narcotics)

    What is Project P.A.C.K.M.A.N.?

Project P.A.C.K.M.A.N. is a new first of its kind, project that combines the musical interest and talents of local Police Officers and community children in an effort to discuss and combat the ill effects of narcotics. There will be discussions about musical artists who have overcome drug addictions and others who have died from them. We will also conduct group discussions about violence and/or activities that may be going on in the community.

One of the goals of the program will be to have area Police Officers, who are also musicians, perform with the local children.  The project will be open to local 7th and 8th graders, as well as Manasquan High School students.  Participating students should have musical interests, even if they do not play any instrument.

Meetings and practices will take place in an area church and we hope to have area celebrities as guest Speakers.  In order to give students an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and interests, our plan is to perform at the Algonquin Theater approximately every three months.  There is no cost for students to participate; however tickets will be sold for our performances.  All proceeds will benefit the Southern Monmouth Community Alliance to further serve local residents.

The musical selections we play will not contain any sexual or, violent overtones, or glorify the use of any drug.

This program was fully conceived by Patrolman Robert Melendez of the Sea Girt Police Department and he has been assisted by other officers from Sea Girt Police Department, Neptune City Police Department, Brookdale College Police Department, and Monmouth County Sheriff's Department.  Patrolman Melendez has been a Police Officer for the Borough of Sea Girt, for 15 years, and also heads, and is the sole officer, in the Departments D.A.R.E program. Has has been the Department's D.A.R.E. Officer for the past 15 years, working in the Sea Girt Elementary School.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Patrolman Melendez @ Sea Girt Police Headquarters 732-449-7300 or e-mail him at packman@seagirtpd.net.  He will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have, and looks forward to working with you or your child.
